Methodology
- Universe: HalalGauge's covered equities (ETFs excluded).
- Screen: must PASS the AAOIFI Standard standard — the basis for most mainstream halal indices.
- Selection (point-in-time): themed subset, the 25 largest qualifying companies by estimated market cap at the index start date (Jun 2024) — not today's largest — so the basket reflects what you'd have held at inception (25 constituents).
- Weighting: equal-weight, buy-and-hold, price return.
- Benchmarks: S&P 500 (SPY) and the halal S&P (SPUS), normalised the same way.
Note: constituents are selected by size at the start date to avoid look-ahead/survivorship bias on selection. One residual caveat: the halal screen uses current fundamentals (historical balance sheets aren't available), and the index is buy-and-hold (not periodically rebalanced). Treat as illustrative, not a live fund track record.
